Departing Westlife back in 2004, Brian McFadden released his first solo album, Irish Son. Four years later, he is back with a more mature sound with his sophomore release, Set In Stone. Although, things are a little different this time. Brian has decided to release the album first in his second home of Australia and his first single, Like Only a Woman Can has already been a success on the ARIA singles chart.

The new album is a big departure from his first album, Irish Son, saying, “The lyric content was very dark and pessimistic.”

He describes Set in Stone as “a lot more polished, a lot of pop, more radio sounding. The songs are in a happy place and that’s what the message is in most of the songs. This album is more true to what I am as a person.”

The response to ‘Like Only a Woman Can’ has been positive and compliments from the public keep coming his way, “[They say] I love your song, I heard it on the radio. It’s nice when people say that. It’s encouraging.”

At the end of February, he supported the Backstreet Boys on their Australian tour where he performed songs from Set In Stone to a big stadium audience for the first time. “It was great, I’ve known the boys a while so it was good to get back on the road.”

As for his next single, he’s still making a decision, “It’s a shake up at the moment. I’m working on it now. Twisted, the first song on the album, I’m doing a new version of that, with Pot Bellez so we’re going to wait and see how that turns out.”

He begins his concert tour at The Basement in Sydney (with Axle Whitehead) on May 22 and May 23 and the rest of Australia can look forward for the tour stop in their state very soon. “We’re planning to do more touring [in Australia] but we’re going to start doing a few shows.”

Set In Stone is in stores now.
