A reincarnation of the demised The Libertines, former member Carl Barât formed Dirty Pretty Things forging on his music career and now up to their second album, Romance at Short Notice. From beginning to end, all that comes to mind are flashes of The Fratellis and Arctic Monkeys during Best Face and Kicks or Consumption. Buzzards and Crows struggles to find Carl’s vocals in place with the verses and random sound effects that you would hear in a sci-fi movie try to make the song alienating. Hippy’s Son plays out by screaming the lyrics in anger, Tired of England started off like a ceremonial march with its trumpet but turns out to be a love letter to their country and Come Closer could become a song that can be sung around the campfire with its acoustic elements. Overall, half of the album seems experimental due to too much beer and the other half has solid songs that will make the fans of Dirty Pretty Things very happy.
