Feist, Of Montreal And Bloc Party Go Green For Benefit Album

The record industry will be a little greener starting on April 8 when Green Owl Records releases its first CD/DVD compilation featuring unreleased tracks from Feist, Of Montreal, Bloc Party, Deerhoof, Muse and many others.

Green Owl was launched by Ben Brewer (The Exit, The Appletrees), Ellenike Abreu (The Appletrees) and producer/engineer/musician Stephen Glicken. They combined their love for music and the environment and came up with The Green Owl Comp: A Benefit For The Energy Action Coalition. It will be released digitally to reduce waste, but also as a physical release packaged in 100-per cent post-consumer paper.

The package will include a 16-song audio CD and a DVD with eight music videos, an interview with Energy Action Coalition (EAC) founder Billy Parish and eight audio tracks of bonus material. All of the proceeds will go to the EAC, a youth-led group of more than 40 clean energy organizations in the U.S. and Canada.

The artist-run label’s website includes a zip code engine that can tell you environmental facts about your home city and a carbon calculator that will tell you how many pounds of CO2 you use per year based on the products you use.
