‘Pineapple’ opens comedy festival

Apatow, Rogen to attend Just for Laughs

The Just for Laughs Film Festival will include a July 19 screening of “Pineapple Express” attended by producer Judd Apatow, actor and co-writer Seth Rogen, co-writer Evan Goldberg and co-star Danny McBride.

Programming of the comedy film fest, previously known as Comedia, was unveiled Tuesday in Montreal.

The July 10 opening film will be Gallic comedy “Asterix and the Olympic Games,” and the closer on July 20 is Fox’s “The Rocker,” a comedy about a drummer for a 1980s hair band starring Rainn Wilson (”The Office”).

The other Fox movie at the fest is “Space Chimps,” an animated pic featuring the voice of Andy Samberg (”Saturday Night Live”).

Chaz Thorne’s Canuck film “Just Buried,” a dark comedy set at a smalltown funeral home, will premiere. It stars Montreal thesp Jay Baruchel (”Knocked Up”). Both Thorne and Baruchel will be at the preem. Sundance entry “Baghead” will also screen, along with “The Deal,” which stars William H. Macy, Jason Ritter and Meg Ryan.

The film fest runs alongside Montreal’s Just for Laughs comedy festival.

Also programmed concurrently with Just for Laughs, the inaugural Just Comedy biz confab has added four more names to its programming lineup.

Brit multihyphenate Edgar Wright, “Ask a Ninja” creators Kent Nichols and Douglas Sarine, and FremantleMedia exec VP of entertainment and production Rob Clark have been added to the guest list of the two-day conference, slated to begin July 17 in Montreal.

The four will join previously announced guests including Apatow, as well as Ivan and Jason Reitman at the event.

For his part, Wright will pair with Jason Reitman on July 18 for a one-hour conversation “Wright & Reitman: Unplugged,” in which the filmmakers will discuss the comedy feature biz.
