In Made of Honor, Patrick Dempsey plays Tom, a complete ladies man and meets women wherever he goes, therefore he has created certain rules when engaging with women (i.e. no back to backs). Then you have Hannah (Michelle Monaghan), the good friend and the only stable relationship he has with a woman. When Hannah goes away to Scotland for six weeks, Tom, after ten years of friendship, finally realizes his feelings and wants to reveal when she returns. However when Hannah has something to reveal herself to Tom upon her return, she is engaged to Colin (Kevin McKidd) and are going to get married in six weeks, asking Tom to be the maid of honor. He reluctantly accepts so Tom sets out to sabotage Hannah’s feelings for Colin, making himself look the better man and also sets out to be the best maid of honor there could be.
The chemistry between Dempsey and Monaghan started off slow but eventually picked up for the movie’s pivotal scenes. There are great jokes that keep the movie moving along, a poker game that turned into bridal gift making or an elderly woman with a ‘fascination’ for some specific beads. Dempsey, once again, has proved himself as a dashing leading man that will sweep you off your feet and Monaghan was mediocre, as more could have been done to establish her character. An honorable mention is needed for the father-son relationship between Dempsey and Sydney Pollack, hilarity and heart shows in the few scenes they shared on screen.
If you love romantic comedies or head over heels in love with Dempsey, Made of Honor is made for you.
