An album review by Laura Hartley
Kate Ceberano has now released her 17th album, So Much Beauty, which features nine cover songs and three previously unreleased originals.
Kate first broke on to the music scene as a solo musician in the late 80’s, and has since then released hit after hit. This album sees her take a collection of hit songs (She Will Be Loved – Maroon 5, Chasing Cars – Snow Patrol, Play Me – Neil Diamond, Suddenly I see – K.T Tunstall) and make a softer, unique version, however it doesn’t do the songs justice.
As most of these songs have such a distinctive style, the gentler arrangements lack umph. When such major hits are performed by a different artist, it is often hard to adapt. Live To Tell, originally by Madonna, is the exception, suiting her perfectly.
The best songs on the album would have to be originals written by Kate and co-writer. She has a distinct voice and this album definitely shows it off.
Die hard Kate Ceberano fans may love this album, and if you’re looking for relaxing dinner music this CD is ideal. It is generally suited for people over the age of 30.
So Much Beauty is in stores on the 28th of April 2008.
